Kintetsu Origins and Parent Company

Kintetsu Corporation

Founded in 1910 as the Osaka Electric Railway, serving the thirty kilometre route between Osaka and Nara, Kintetsu Corporation has grown into the largest private railway company in Japan, servicing 600 million passengers per year. Today, the Kintetsu Group consists of over 130 affiliated companies with products and services accross the globe. Kintetsu World Express


The Operation Bureau of Kintetsu Corporation begins handling international freight  and travel service. Approved as an agency by IATA (International Air Transport Association).


Developed into Kinki Nippon Tourist Co., Ltd. (KNT), creating a comprehensive luggage handler by combining our international airfreight and international tourism divisions.


Began overseas operations with establishment of subsidiaries in Hong Kong and the United States.


The Airfreight Operation Dept. separates from Kinki Nippon Tourist Co., Ltd. to become independent as Kintetsu World Express, Inc. specialising in airfreight. Licensed for Utilised Airfreight Operation (forwarding service) the same month, the company begins its original domestic forwarding service. Kintetsu World Express, Inc. is born.

1978 Became the first Japanese forwarder to take its export operations’ computer system online.


KWEHKG establishes the representative office in Beijing.

1989 KWEHKG establishes the representative office in Shanghai.


KIntetsu World Express (Australia) Pty. Ltd. is established.


The Company obtains the first ISO9002 certification (international standard for  quality assurance) in Japan's airfreight industry. Adopted quadrilateral management system with regional headquarters for Japan, The Americas, Europe & Africa, and Asia & Oceania.

Kintetsu Logistics (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. is established in Shenzhen.


KWEHKG obtains ISO9002(now ISO9001) certification (international standard for quality assurance). Beijing  Kintetsu World Express Co., Ltd. is established in Beijing.

1997 Kintetsu World Express (India) Pvt. Ltd. is established in India.


Listed on Nasdaq Japan Market, a section of Osaka Securities Exchange.

2002 Listed on the Second Section of Tokyo Stock Exchange. World Headquarters (WHQ) is formed at KWE Head Office in Tokyo.
2003 Stock listing upgraded to the First Section of Tokyo Stock Exchange.


KWE (Shanghai) Commences Operations of a Large-scale Warehouse Facility (46,000m2) in the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone.


Kintetsu World Express (Czech) s.r.o. is established in Czech Republic, which is the first subsidiary incorporated in Central and Eastern Europe.


KWE established Bangladesh Delegate Office. KWE established the Medium Term Management Plan "Ready for the Next!” 40th  anniversary celebrations of the Company’s establishment.
